Appearance/what it's made of
The brain is made of certain nerve cells (bulb like cell body attached to long nerve fibers, like wire. that carries very tiny electrical signals -the info that tells us what we feel, think, see, touch, ,move and function.
.weight-about 3 pounds
.about 75% water
.about 100 billion neurons
.1000 to 10000 synapses for each neuron
.100000 miles of blood vessels in your brain

.about 60% fat

making decisions in a tricky situation
When you're making a decision your brain is auguring about what to do
prefrontal cortex  (makes the decisions)
emotional areas of your brain : amygdale
when your brain is making decisions the amygdale automatically turns on and creates feelings such as fear, anxiety
then the prefrontal cortex thinks through those feelings
as an example a while back captain soldenburger was driving his plane and it began to break down he has very scared and frustrated but he thought that fear won't do anything to help him so he stayed calm and thought about what he was doing he decided to land on the water. no one was hurt everyone landed safely.

facts
.your brain is the most energy consuming part of your body
.your brain consumes 25 watts of power while your awake. this amount of energy is enough to illuminate a light bulb
.750ml of blood pumps through your brain every minute which is 15-20% of blood flow from the heart
your brain stays alive about 7 minutes after you die

problems we had with  our project                                                                                                            we wanted our project to be about how the brain makes decisions. there wasn't a lot on just making decisions all we could find was the brain uses the prefontal cortex to make decisions. and that obviously isn't enough to write about for our whole project so we just made our project on random facts about the brain.

Day 1
-we started brainstorming ideas and figuring out our topic
Day 2
-decided who does what (split up tasks)
Day 3
-started research
Day 4-6
 research
Day 7
-compared research
Day 8
-finalized project put together poster

reflections
brainstorming 9/10 i gave us 9/10 because we did our brainstorming but we didn't write a whole lot for it.
proposal 10/10 i gave us 10/10 because we wrote a lot for it and followed all the criteria
conference/10 i gave us 8/10 because we didnt really explain or change a whole lot in our conference
process 10/10 i gave us 10/10 because we showed all our process

DEFINITION POEM
My pail white skin
My black singed hair
My eyes that never close
And my carved in smile
My white hoodie that will soon be stained red
It's time for you, to go to bed
And time for me to creep
So please, just go to sleep

WHAT?

Today in humanities our class started working on our pros and cons for our novel. Then after that we began to make the infomercial type thing for the book we finished reading.

WHY?

I think that we did the pros/cons for our novel so that our teacher or upcoming readers can see how each of us think of the book, and for previous readers it can kind of give them a bit of help as to if they want to read the  book or not, kind of like a 5 star rating.
And i think that we are making the infomercial type thing so that anyone who may be interested in reading the book can get some minor details into it. And it can kind of show our teacher that we understood and read the book by giving a small summary.

REFLECTIONS AND/OR CONNECTIONS

I am enjoying the pros/cons thing for our novel because i think its a good and fun way to show our understanding of the book. It also shows other people a little bit about the book and grabs there attention a little bit so that they may want to read the book them selves.

Learning Blogs

   Tuesday, December 16th

                  1. What Did We Do?

Today in Humanities we worked on our paragraph booklets for most of the class time.
At the very end of class our TOC showed us the "My Sentence" assignment and the
"Three Word" assignment on Ms.Lees' blog.

                   2. Why (Learning Intentions) Did We Do It?

Today in class we worked on our paragraph booklets so we could improve our paragraphing
skills, and learn about new ways to make up a paragraph. We did the "Three Word" assignment
to give us something to work on, as well as getting us to realize what we need to work on for the
 upcoming year, 2015.

                   3. Reflections/Connections - How was Today's Class important beyond Hum 8
Where might it be Useful and How?

The "Three Word" assignment could be useful in the future when you either want to set a new
years resolution, or you feel you could do something better. Coming up with the three words will
help you set goals easier. The paragraph booklet could help us in other classes like English, by
giving you new and better ways to write paragraphs.

                   4. Homework Reminders

-Remember, paragraph booklets are due Friday, Dec. 19th

                   5. Homework Tips

Always put your best work into assignments. You should also do a brainstorm and an outline for
each paragraph in your booklets, and make sure you double space each paragraph.

December 15 2014 Learning Blog

What?
Today in class we talked in our lit circle groups about the fourth and final section in our books and then Ms. Lees gave us the homework which was slightly different then the other weeks because we won't have a lit circle discussion next week because our books are done. We also talked a little about the pancake breakfast and how we should bring in food bank donations and how it would be good to  be at school at 7:00am because it gets crowded at 7:30.

Why?
We did our lit circle discussions because we prepared them from last week. (Text reference, personal response, and 3-5 questions.) We talked about the pancake breakfast because Ms. Lees wanted to make sure we don't have to stand in a big line if we don't want to and that was important because I hate lines! Also I wouldn't have known to bring in a food bank donation.

Reflections And Connections.
When Ms. Lees told us about the big lines there are around 7:30 it reminded me of going to Disney Land because if you get to the park early you can avoid long line ups but later on there are massive line ups!

Homework.
1. discussion response
2. Self asses -based on feedback
     a. rubrick (tallies and examples of expectations/criteria)
     b. Was your response your best work? (Why/why not?)
     c. Oral (what skills did you improve upon the most? What do you still need support/help/practice on? Explain.

3 words and sentence.

My 3 words I'll try to live my life by for the new year are:
-Effort (because I tend to slack off around February and I want to keep my grades up)
-Positivity (because I usually have a bad attitude towards lots of things. For example if I have to go to math class I'd say "Aw! I hate math it's no fun!" When I could say "yay! I can't wait to see my friends!")
-Encouraging (because I really like when others encourage me and I want to make others feel good too)

My 1 sentence is:
Maiya is a leader
                                                           3 WORDS FOR 2015
EFFORT- Kaylee chose this because she always try's her hardest but can take more pride in her work like writing more of her work neater and more organised. And possibly adding some color into her work as well.
POSITIVE-Kaylee also needs to stay more positive for example before she takes a test she needs to stay positive instead! For example she needs to not say "i'm going to fail" before a test she needs to stay positive to earn a positive mark!
PERFECTION- Another word kaylee needs to work on is perfection! She needs to try and perfect her techniques in swimming so she can earn swimmer of the month again!

One word that would suit Kaylee in the present is that she is "triumphic" I am saying this because she always tries her best in school and out of school and is never a poor sport!
