WHAT?

Today in humanities our class started working on our pros and cons for our novel. Then after that we began to make the infomercial type thing for the book we finished reading.

WHY?

I think that we did the pros/cons for our novel so that our teacher or upcoming readers can see how each of us think of the book, and for previous readers it can kind of give them a bit of help as to if they want to read the  book or not, kind of like a 5 star rating.
And i think that we are making the infomercial type thing so that anyone who may be interested in reading the book can get some minor details into it. And it can kind of show our teacher that we understood and read the book by giving a small summary.

REFLECTIONS AND/OR CONNECTIONS

I am enjoying the pros/cons thing for our novel because i think its a good and fun way to show our understanding of the book. It also shows other people a little bit about the book and grabs there attention a little bit so that they may want to read the book them selves.

Learning Blogs

   Tuesday, December 16th

                  1. What Did We Do?

Today in Humanities we worked on our paragraph booklets for most of the class time.
At the very end of class our TOC showed us the "My Sentence" assignment and the
"Three Word" assignment on Ms.Lees' blog.

                   2. Why (Learning Intentions) Did We Do It?

Today in class we worked on our paragraph booklets so we could improve our paragraphing
skills, and learn about new ways to make up a paragraph. We did the "Three Word" assignment
to give us something to work on, as well as getting us to realize what we need to work on for the
 upcoming year, 2015.

                   3. Reflections/Connections - How was Today's Class important beyond Hum 8
Where might it be Useful and How?

The "Three Word" assignment could be useful in the future when you either want to set a new
years resolution, or you feel you could do something better. Coming up with the three words will
help you set goals easier. The paragraph booklet could help us in other classes like English, by
giving you new and better ways to write paragraphs.

                   4. Homework Reminders

-Remember, paragraph booklets are due Friday, Dec. 19th

                   5. Homework Tips

Always put your best work into assignments. You should also do a brainstorm and an outline for
each paragraph in your booklets, and make sure you double space each paragraph.

December 15 2014 Learning Blog

What?
Today in class we talked in our lit circle groups about the fourth and final section in our books and then Ms. Lees gave us the homework which was slightly different then the other weeks because we won't have a lit circle discussion next week because our books are done. We also talked a little about the pancake breakfast and how we should bring in food bank donations and how it would be good to  be at school at 7:00am because it gets crowded at 7:30.

Why?
We did our lit circle discussions because we prepared them from last week. (Text reference, personal response, and 3-5 questions.) We talked about the pancake breakfast because Ms. Lees wanted to make sure we don't have to stand in a big line if we don't want to and that was important because I hate lines! Also I wouldn't have known to bring in a food bank donation.

Reflections And Connections.
When Ms. Lees told us about the big lines there are around 7:30 it reminded me of going to Disney Land because if you get to the park early you can avoid long line ups but later on there are massive line ups!

Homework.
1. discussion response
2. Self asses -based on feedback
     a. rubrick (tallies and examples of expectations/criteria)
     b. Was your response your best work? (Why/why not?)
     c. Oral (what skills did you improve upon the most? What do you still need support/help/practice on? Explain.

3 words and sentence.

My 3 words I'll try to live my life by for the new year are:
-Effort (because I tend to slack off around February and I want to keep my grades up)
-Positivity (because I usually have a bad attitude towards lots of things. For example if I have to go to math class I'd say "Aw! I hate math it's no fun!" When I could say "yay! I can't wait to see my friends!")
-Encouraging (because I really like when others encourage me and I want to make others feel good too)

My 1 sentence is:
Maiya is a leader
                                                           3 WORDS FOR 2015
EFFORT- Kaylee chose this because she always try's her hardest but can take more pride in her work like writing more of her work neater and more organised. And possibly adding some color into her work as well.
POSITIVE-Kaylee also needs to stay more positive for example before she takes a test she needs to stay positive instead! For example she needs to not say "i'm going to fail" before a test she needs to stay positive to earn a positive mark!
PERFECTION- Another word kaylee needs to work on is perfection! She needs to try and perfect her techniques in swimming so she can earn swimmer of the month again!

One word that would suit Kaylee in the present is that she is "triumphic" I am saying this because she always tries her best in school and out of school and is never a poor sport!
What we did today learning blog

#1 WHAT?                                                                                                                                         Today Today in Humanities the first thing that we did today was that we did some work in our "paragraph booklets."  Then we watched some videos to get some idea's for our 3 word writing. Than we had to write the 3 words and sentences on paper so we can blog get ready to blog about it.
I believe that
#2 WHY?  this paragraph booklet is a very resourceful booklet because, for one it helps us develop writing paragraphs but that's a little vague so here's a few examples of why, it helps us write paragraphs. For one it helps us with finding and writing a good topic sentence, it also helps us define a good paragraph, it tells us the actual definition of a paragraph it's self,  it shows us how to organize a paragraph properly, and also finding key words in a paragraph.
I think that the 3 word writing is also an important thing to do its like what the lady who had this idea said " Do we actually accomplish our new years resolutions? Most likely we don't." So instead of making a new years resolution this year chose 3 words that you want to be more like next year. For example, you could chose (effort) as a word than say "I want to make more effort in math this year! " Or anything else you want to be more of. So this helps us make ourselves better each day.

#3 REFLECTIONS AND CONNECTIONS
When our substitute teacher read out the lady who thought of the 3 word writing's opinion i certainly did agree each year i make a new years resolution and each year i try to do it then i get lazy and i give up (i know i'm a quitter when it comes to making my bed every morning :) So i think that by trying to do better in school or sports or just anything that goes on in your life is a great way to start off the new year!

#4 HOMEWORK TIPS & REMINDERS

For the 3 word writing make sure you try to write in the 3rd person :)

                                                                                                                 BY KAYLEE J

3 Words

Hi my name is Anthony and the three words I chose for the year 2015 are:
 Gold, Creative and Lazy.

I chose the word Gold because my personal goal for the last few years has
been to make the gold team for soccer. I haven't achieved this goal yet, but I've                                            been practicing more than ever and I feel I can move up this year.

I chose the word creative because I haven't been able to come up with as many
creative ideas lately so I wan't to improve on creativity.

The last word I chose was lazy. I chose this word because I want to be less lazy
with school work and instead of watching T.V. I want to go and get my homework
done right away, rather than waiting until after soccer in the afternoon, or Sunday to
       do it.

December 4 Learning Blog Post (by Maiya)

What Did We Do?
Today in humanities, We talked about what we did well on our blog posts from Tuesday and what we could improve on. For example we should be specific about what we did we shouldn't say we have homework. We should say we have to finish our lit circle discussions for Monday November 17. We also talked about what we did well on our Tuesday blog posts like our tips and what was due when and how there where headings. We also talked about our innovative ideas and how even if there are pictures of your idea/your invention it doesn't mean that the picture is the same thing you were going to make. Then Ms. Lees taught us how to do outlines for our writing and we worked on a work sheet for the whole second block.

Why?
We talked about how we did on our blog posts so we can improve and add on to them and so other people can do a good blog post and don't make the same mistake as the first people. We talked about innovative ideas because some people were stuck and some other people thought that lots of ideas were taken up because there were pictures of them on the internet and they thought they couldn't do the idea, when really they could or if the idea was actually taken they could add onto it. We talked about some ideas like how you could improve an every day object like a binder or coat. For example you could create a wifi charger in your coat or maybe a pocket that hides your phone in class so the teacher doesn't see it. We talked about writing outlines because we didn't know what they were and there're a basic writing skill. I learned that using an outline for writing essays would be faster and quicker to write an essay because your ideas would already be there and you just would have to expand on them. We worked on the outline worksheet so we could practice outlining and so we didn't have as much homework.

Reflections And Connections
When we talked about blog post we could use that outside humanities by doing that on our personal blogs. For our innovation projects the teachers want us to make a cool project and all but I think the main focus is to learn how to be innovative. When we learned about writing outlining we could use that outside of humanities when we have to write things in other classes like maybe lab reports is science. Or submit a piece of writing into a contest.

Home Work Reminders
-Five outlines. Due tomorrow December 5 2014
-Highlight and underline topics and transitions (in the booklet). Due tomorrow December 25 2014
-Innovation proposals. Due Tuesday December 9 2014

Learning Blogs: December 2nd 2014

     1. What Did We Do?

Today in Ms. Lees block 4 Humanities 8 class we handed in our Dialectical Journals along with our
Goals and Stars and our self evaluation.
After we started to talk about our learning blogs and we got in our blogging groups to discuss who will be writing and on which days.
Then, Ms. Lees discussed our portfolios and we got started working on those, which are due on Dec. 3.

     2. Why Did We Do It (Learning Intentions)

We wrote out our Goals and Stars to figure our what we need to improve on and what we are doing well at. We talked about who will be writing on the blog in our groups so we could get a sense of discussing  out problems in a matter of minutes. We also did our portfolios to find out ways of improving our school habits.

      3. Reflections and Connections

Discussing who will write on which day is useful because it helps you work around other peoples schedules. This might apply to when your and adult and you want to try to arrange a birthday party for your son or daughter, you may want to work around other peoples schedules then. Also, the Goals and Stars assignment could help you in the future by giving you a way to distinguish what you did well from what you need to improve on.

      4. Homework Reminders

        - Don't forget portfolios are due tomorrow, Dec. 3.
        - If you're yet to hand in your Dialectical Journals be sure to do so tomorrow.

      5. Homework Tips/Hints

Make sure to re-read your portfolios and make sure your ideas are clear and organized.
